Flavonoids are found in various fruits and vegetables such as: apple, celery, parsley, mint, lemon, beet and orange.
According to a study, high levels of omega-6 could lead to kidney stone formation. On the other hand, an increase in omega-3 could reduce the metabolism of omega-6 naturally. In this sense, omega-3 could help prevent kidney stones.

- Basil: According to a study conducted on rats and published in 2019, this herb could help protect the kidneys. Among its properties, it has antioxidants and may help lower glucose.
- Parsley: In addition to having flavonoids and 88% water, it may cause a diuretic effect. In this sense, it may help eliminate liquids and cleanse the body.
Other foods to consider
Here’re other foods that could help prevent and treat kidney problems.
- Garlic: It has a compound (allicin) that, according to some studies, could have antioxidant, antihypertensive and protective effects on kidney function.
- Onion: According to experts, it’s one of the richest sources of flavonoids. Therefore, it’s a great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
- Blueberries: They’re high in antioxidants. According to a study, they could help keep the kidneys healthy.
- Grapes: They’re rich in flavonoids (antioxidants).
- Fish oil: It’s one of the foods with the highest omega-3 content.
Do juices work to break up kidney stones?
If the stones are very small, they may be removed in the urine. But to achieve this, it’s important to do the following:
- First, consume enough water every day.
- Maintain a healthy diet and habits so that the problem doesn’t progress.
If the kidney stones (also known as nephrolithiasis, renal lithiasis or urolithiasis) are very large, medications or procedures with prior medical consultation may be required.
